This happen last year when i have to move out of my dorm. My parents told me to rent a storage so that we don't have to make 2 trips. I reserved a self storage with U Haul online to make sure that there will be a storage for all of my stuff on the move out date. The day before the move out I called U-Haul Bloomington, IL branch (that's where i reserve it) to confirm and they said that the room is ready for me to move in tomorrow.

 

The next day come and I drove to U-Haul with my SUV fully loaded. I walked into the office and ask for my storage. The person at the counter told me that they have no room available. I told him that i made a reservation online almost a month ago. My credit was already charge and that when i called yesterday to confirm the person told me that you guys have my storage ready for me to move in. The person at the desk refuse any kind of responsiblity.

 

I fought with the person for half an hour. He finally call the manager for me. The manager refuse to take any responsibilty too. He said that they do not honor any online reservation and contract. By now it is 4:45pm and I know that i better stop arguing and start searching for another storage place before it's too late. I then ask for my money back and they refuse to refund my money. They said that i have to call the customer service because I make the reservation online.

 

I have to go through the yellow pages to look for another place. Most of them are all full. I finally got the hold of U Stor and they told me that they are more than happy to wait for me ( when i call it was 4:55 and their office close at 5). U Stor is all the way on the other side of town. I arrived at 5:15pm and they did not hesistate to help me. I will never ever use U Haul ever again.

 

Less than a month later my friend rent a U Haul truck and have a problem with them too. The truck that they gave him barely work. It make loud noises and wouldn't go pass 40 mph. The gas tank was less than half full when they give it to him. When he return the truck they charge him $300 more than estimated price and also charge him extra for not filling the gas tank all the way up. He said that he filled up to the point where it was when the truck was handed to him. They accused him of lying and charge him anyway.

 

U Haul have really bad customer service and need to be put out of business.
