car service complaint

one day during lunch hour, the passenger window to my 2002 VW bug got stuck. i called SOVEREIGN

VOLKSWAGEN in hicksville, ny and explained to them the problem. though i didn't buy my bug from

them nor was my bug still under warranty, their service dept. told me there would be no charge to service it because volkswagen has a national warranty on 2002 beetle's window regulators which they would replace. after i drove it over, i got a call from SOVEREIGN explaining that it was not the window regulator, but the window motor that was broken. to get a new motor and the window functioning properly it would cost me upwards of $500. " ok," i said. then i requested that SOVEREIGN also perform the 48,000 mile service maintenance it recommends in their scheduled maintenance menu. my car had not yet been inspected by volkswagen and i 'd bought it just over a month ago, so i thought this service would be a very good thing for my used car. afterall, included in the inspection were: inspection of entire brake sysytem; A/C system check; adjustment & lube of transmission linkage; & 5051 electronic system check, among others. the following monday when i went to pick up my car, the nightmare began... the window motor was on national back order but SOVEREIGN offered to at least close my window, no charge. this i could have lived with, but as i drove away from the dealer, from the very start, i noticed NEW problems... the A/C was no longer working and there was a slight vibration/hum coming from the upper right dashboard area.

the next day as i drove i was certain that SOVEREIGN had done serious damage to my new (but used)

car. i tried again to get the A/C to work but there was STILL no cold air. then after driving a short highway distance, the VERY NEXT DAY AFTER BEING SERVICED BY VW, my temperature warning light went on! apparently, the engine was overheating and smoke began spewing from under my hood! i got out to check it and when i went to open the right side passenger door, it too was now broken! at this point, even i was overheating. i had taken my bug into SOVEREIGN VW in good faith. aside from a window that was stuck down,t here was nothing wrong with my car. i'd been driving it for almost 2 months and had had NONE of these problems before taking it in for a broken window! i was furious. the following day, my car was towed to a non VW auto shop where they explained to me that the clip to my car's battery had been broken, causing numerous problems to both my A/C and my engine. the rest was just sloppy workmanship. william at SOVEREIGN VOLKSWAGEN agreed only to fixing the right passenger door, "when you

bring the car back in to have the window motor replaced," he said. when asked about all the other

damages caused by his shop, he could only say that my car was not under warranty and that they are not responsible. at best, i believe SOVEREIGN should pay for the repair charges that followed the very NEXT DAY after

their sloppy service. and at the very least, i'd settle with SOVEREIGN refunding me for all sloppy

services rendered by them ($190). * * regardless, it was a hard lesson learned: if it ain't broken, DON'T FIX IT, and if it is broken DON'T

TAKE IT TO SOVEREIGN VW - by all means! * * any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

How scary! My drivers side window doesn't work and luckily my friend got the window up! I use a card key everyday at work in the parking garage and it is a pain in the rear! I can't afford to take it to the VW place here in Anchorage, no warranty, and when I took it in for a red light that was $800. Anyway, I would like to roll down the drivers side window for way under $500. Luckily I don't do fast food drive

thrus, maybe once a year, but everyday to get in and out of the parking garage! I have to open the door carefully and stretch out the door. What a pain! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Sheryl (Do not like my bug, it's not even cute anymore!)
