I financed my car w/ PeopleFirst, which was then bought by CapitalOne Auto Finance. I paid it off on 6/4/2004, (and the check cleared soon afterward), but they didn't credit it to my account until 6/14. They then placed a 20 BUSINESS DAY hold on my title, before they would release it to me, and a 30 BUSINESS DAY hold on an additional auto-debit they made against my checking account on 6/21!!

They claim the debit was made on 6/15, which was too close to the day the acct was paid off to have stopped the debit, but my bank's records show 6/21. They're just (as is usual for Capital One) doing whatever they can get away with. I actually had to write the Postmaster and the NJ attorney general to force them to honor a contract commitment a few years ago. So, for a car which was paid off on or about 6/4, I won't have my title until 7/12 (a month and a half later) and I won't have my illegitimately debited money until 7/31. STAY AWAY FROM CAPITAL ONE!!!!
