Arm & Hammer underarm deodorant
News flash: Arm & Hammer underarm deodorant products no longer contain any baking soda. I have been using this brand since its introduction, specifically for the added odor-control benefit of baking soda. I recently bought a stick of the "New! Clearer, Stronger" Arm & Hammer Ultramax, only to find I had underarm odor by the end of the day.
Although the Arm & Hammer logo and color scheme are prominently displayed on the package (synonymous in the consumer's mind with baking soda), a check of the ingredients list shows the product contains no baking soda at all. I checked the A&H Ultramax website and found extensive marketing language touting the benefits of baking soda in the product. These claims, along with the implied baking soda content on the package, constitute clear advertising fraud in my mind. I wrote to the company, who told me that baking soda was no longer an ingredient.
They feel this is an improvement, and are sorry I don't agree. They then sent me coupons for free deodorant... of their now-inferior brand! Without the baking soda, Arm & Hammer deodorant has no distinctive benefit as compared to any other brand. I will no longer buy this product and I'm very disappointed, especially since no other major-brand deodorant products contain baking soda, either. It was the only deodorant that my husband and I were satisfied with. My experience is that the new deodorant sans baking soda is inferior to the previous product; it does not provide as much odor protection.
