After receiving an email from a different consumer that is having a problem similar to what I have originally with Hollywood Video, I decided to write complaints.com to let you all know that the problem was resolved peacefully. It wasn't my doing. I spoke with an attorney advisor, and he informed me to just pay the 70.00 bucks and be done with it, taking it to court would be too extreme and I'd probably lose and have to pay my court fees and Hollywood video's. So before I paid for movies that I had already returned I told my wife I was going to just pay them, cancel our accounts and move on. My wife then called Hollywood's collection agency, and she told them exacly what I did, but I guess she had a little more sugar in her voice than I did because they cleared up the matter for us right there in less than a five minute conversation. The agent on the phone looked at our rental history and saw then in all our years of rentals with Hollywood we were never late and never owed any money. The claim never went on my credit report, and I can say that I guess it depends on what agent takes your call and how much they are willing to do for a customer. There is a Hollywood in the Beverly/Evergreen Park area that is pretty good from what I hear, but one bad experience with a vendor can leave a sour taste in your mouth. As for renting, we do Blockbuster may 3 times a year, but pretty much our renting days are over. Thank you Complaints.com for allowing a consumer to speak out. Tony B.

Hollywood Video / Rental
8915 S. Stony Island Chicago, IL Hollywood video was fine until the reported my family to a credit bureau claiming we did not return movies to them. We rented the movies on January 9th of 2004. We rented Sea Biscuit and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. We were in the process of moving but we didn't move until the end of March. Around the 3 rd week of January we received a message on our phone from an automated service stating we had late movies. I called the store and gave them my account number and my wives (rented under her name) and they said we have no outstanding movies.
Well, we moved and forwarded to our new address was 2 letters from the Credit Protection Agency; one dated 5/3/04 and the other 5/25/04, we received both the last week of May. They are charging us for not returned the League of Extraordinary Gentleman. When I called the store, a guy named Chris told me that if we don't see it on the floor and it wasn't returned and that they dont' make mistakes. I told him we rented two movies that day, with was SeaBisuit.
He said we turned in Sea Biscuit 30 days late and I told him he was wrong. He then went on to tell me that they get patrons all the time that say they return movies and never do. I have tried to contact a distract manager, Laurie Whited but she has yet to return my phone call. Yes, I can pay the money, it's the principle of the matter. I am calling on everyone I know and the people they know to stop renting from Hollywood. There are over 7 thousand members at my church, if I can get a least 25% of them to cancel their accounts and tell their friends to do the same.
Unfortunately when calling the corporate office at Hollywood, I received the same treatment from the collections department telling me that I violated the contract by not telling them that I had moved. That still does not account for no mail communication from them between January and March when we moved. This means that the are not efficient and don't even follow their own procedures is a movie is over 9 days late. Tony B B, Anthony
