David R. B Essex, Maryland 21221 On February 5th 2004 I purchased a RCA 27" Tru Flat screen Television Model # 27F530T - Serial # E025C810H at Circuit City for $314.99. During the week of May 17th 2004 the picture became very unstable and overall quality increasingly poor. I called the toll free number giving to me by Circuit City and on Monday June 24th 2004 took the television to Video Tech Center Inc. in Belair Maryland which is thirty miles one way from where I live. The tech working on my set kept me up to date during that week and told me what parts he had to order to repair it. At the end of that week he called and said that the new parts didn’t solve the problem and would have to order more parts. On Monday May 31st I talked to him again and he said the set could not be repaired. An e-mail was sent to RCA from Video Tech Center Inc. for authorization to exchange my set for a new one. During the course of the two weeks that my set was being worked on I had made several calls to RCA through a long distance number that I was giving by the toll free number I had call the first time. I told your customer service agents I was extremely dissatisfied with the fact that I had to drive thirty miles to a service center to have a television less than five months old repaired. Or could only talked to them using a long distance number which was costing me money, and I that was paying for Direct TV for two weeks which was being wasted. Between Tuesday June 1st 2004 and Friday June 4th I talked to three different agents and told them that Circuit City said if your company faxed them an authorization that they would let me exchange my set for a new one. All three agents asked me for Circuit City’s fax number and the number for Video Tech Center so they could send the information to the department that would authorize it. I called Circuit City each day and was told every time that nothing had been faxed to them yet.

 

Once again I called and talked to one of your agents but this time I was told that they could not fax any such authorization to Circuit City. The agent said that the new set would have to be sent to Video Tech Center and no one at your company would have told me that I could get a new set from Circuit City because that wasn’t your policy. I asked her why the other agents asked me for the fax and phone numbers and kept leading me to believe that I could just return my set to Circuit City which is less that a mile from where I live, Instead of having to wait weeks for a new on to be shipped to Video Tech Center which is thirty miles. She just continued to deny that I was told such information and became increasingly rude. The endless apologies, Waiting on hold for hours just to be misled and misinformed, Telling me that you aren’t Direct TV, Treating me in a very demeaning matter, Having to drive sixty miles round trip when gas is $2.05 a gallon. Or that my only option was an exchange after I told them that I wanted my money back because I didn’t want another television from your company just made me more and more dissatisfied with your product. I was also told every time that you couldn’t bend the rules or I couldn’t talk to someone higher in authority because no one was available. I’ve worked in retail for over the past twenty years, someone higher up can always bend the rules or will try to satisfy the customer so they will be happy and come back. But it seems clearly that RCA doesn’t care if a customer is happy with a product or if I will purchase more of your products in the future. Video Tech Center unlike RCA does care about the customer, They were very helpful, Friendly, Supportive and made sure I was happy no matter what it took to do so. I will recommend them to everyone I know. As of right now the only thing I know is that I may have to wait 14 days or longer for my new set to arrive at Video Tech Center, Stand by and watch my Direct TV go to waste for a month and Pay for numerous long distance calls. I will never purchase or recommend another product of any kind that was made by your company again because I have never been more dissatisfied with a company before as I am with yours. David R. I had the same rca television and major problems. It has been sitting unused in my home for quite a long time. Finally had it looked at to find out i need to replace the whole main multi level board. RCA is a horrible brand and I will never purchase any of their products again.
