Cheaptickets.com / Online Hotel Reservations Misquotes
Cheaptickets.com On 7/21/04 I went online to check out the hotel rates for my vacation plans to Las Vegas from 9/30/04 to 10/04/04. I checked various web sites like Travelocity.com and ended up at the Cheaptickets.com site. Pretty much the rate was the same on every site and decided to go ahead and book the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas for the 4 nights. In the computarized online process, Cheaptickets.com takes you to several pages including a confirmation page which shows the total 4 night stay. Keeping in mind that the rates at this resort was $169 for the first night, $199 for the second night, $199 for the third night and $169 for the fourth night, the confirmation page tells me that the TOTAL price for the four nights is a rate of $387.00. WOW, what a deal I thought, and the best of me told me that this was incorrect however I proceeded to hold the room hoping that the rate would be corrected in the end.
I went into the next page to enter my credit card information, but when I click to confirm my reservation plans, I receive a page telling me that the deposit is a whopping $387.00 (which is wrong because the hotel only charges a one night deposit and it is an average of all nights stay), and then it tells me that I have to pay $387.00 at check in. This is obviously incorrect so I pick up the phone and called Cheaptickets.com. I was on the phone for 30 minutes and listened to a repetitious message telling me that someone would be with me in a moment. I just couldn't see myself holding on the phone for that long so I decided to go ahead and cancel the reservation on line. After I cancelled the reservation, I did a new availability check for the same resort and their web site gave me two different prices, none of them including the first one I had received made any realistic sense. That evening I received an email telling me that the reservation was cancelled but the cancellation policies were not the same as they had explained on the web site when I was making the reservation. I called first thing in the morning and finally got a hold of a gentleman that told me that there was no cancellation charge. I explained what had happened the night before and he didn't seem to care much. To my surprise, my account is showing a charge from Lodging.com for $5.00, a web site I have never even heard of until then. I immediately called the toll free number that appeared on the account. I spoke to a female representative, and asked about the charge. She explained that Cheaptickets.com is owned by Lodging.com and it was an automatic charge that Cheaptickets.com charges when you make a reservation, no matter if you end up cancelling it.
I explained that the reason I cancelled the reservation was because their system quoted rates that made no sense and I wasn't given the opportunity to speak to a live rep that evening to correct the mistake on their part. She put me on hold for a while and then told me that her supervisor had instructed her that if I wanted to receive a refund, I had to write a letter. I asked to speak to her supervisor because I couldn't believe that they wouldn't refund $5 on a mistake that they made. I had the sad experience to be transfered to the worst "supervisor" I have ever spoken with. His name is Mike, just Mike, no last name. Totally unprofessional. I explained my situation in detail. I wasn't even finished and he interrupts me to tell me that he doesn't make the rules, he just follows them and that I had to write a letter if I wanted to see my money ever again. I asked to speak to his manager, but as they all say, "she was in a meeting". I asked for her name and number and he provided me with her name being Patty Dugan.
I called the number and again had the sad experience to speak to a representative by the name of Jamie that appeared as if I had bothered her personally. After putting me on hold several times, she tells me that Patty was not available but that she could put me through her voice mail. I left Patty a message to have her call me at my home. This was on 7/29/04 (Thursday Night). Today is 7/30/04 (Friday Night) and I haven't heard from Patty at all. I then decided to write a letter to Email User with a Subject Line FOR PATTY DUGAN, since she didn't appear to be available. I sent her the email right after I spoke to Jamie. I received a response this morning telling me that the email had been forwarded to Patty Dugan for her review.
Today when I arrived home, I checked my email to see if I had received a response, not surprisingly there was nothing. This is no longer to do with the $5.00 that they have charged me for a mistake they made, but for the fact that Cheaptickets.com is misquoting customers left and right and then charging them a fee for the mistakes the company causes. I still have not heard from Cheaptickets.com but this is no longer a surprise, what can I expect if not even a Manager would return your call or email. This is the last time that I will use this service or any web system to book any travel plans in the future. My advise: Use a reputable local travel agency or call the airline and hotels directly.
We booked the Paris Hotel by calling them directly and got excellent service and even better rates than those quoted on the web sites out there. We also booked our airline reservations with the airline directly. DO NOT TRUST Cheaptickets.com. Travel agents do not charge a fee for their services, why should Cheaptickets.com.
