As a diabetic, as well as a sufferer of high-blood pressure, it is mandatory that she have access to a telephone, just in case of emergency. Well, since she signed up for IDT 1 month ago, she has had only 5 days of service!
When they first took over her telephone line, it went dead for 3 weeks! After numerous calls, a technician came out and phone service was restored. At the time of his visit, my sister mentioned the phone jacks in the apartment were inadequate and caused her to be disconnected in the middle of her calls. Another technician was dispatched.
This technician visited approximately 7/20/04. After tinkering with all the jacks, my sister was abruptly disconnected from the call she was on, and the line went dead. When she went into the room in which the tech was working, he was gathering his tools and was about to leave. She scolded him, as he'd left the cover off the main box and wires were exposed.
She advised him that the lines were now dead. He contended the phone service would be restored in 2 hours. It is now 10 days later, and nothing!!!! She advised me to call, she's already called IDT 3 times without success, and the area she'd have to walk to in order to make calls to IDT is not a safe one.
The only way I was able to speak with her was when I called her son on his cell phone, and he coincidentally happened to be at her home. They would not only not listen to me, advising it is a private account, but advised I have her call back or give me the last 4 digits of her social security number. She may call me at some point, but in the meantime, she is vulnerable if she should take ill. STAY CLEAR OF IDT!!!!!!!!
