I paid only one mortgage payment before they screwed up!! They insisted I owed them for insurance escrow. I live in a condominium where structure and hazard insurance is covered by my monthly homeowners association dues. My loan was sold to ALS from West America Mortgage, before I had the chance to make my first payment to America West. ALS screwed up big time. It took me almost eight hours of time talking to different people from different departments as well as writing letters, obtaining copies of insurance certificates, photocopying, etc. I had to obtain help from insurance people, the original lender, etc. to get their mess straightened out. Beware of these people. They have about three different departments and offices that obviously don't communicate with one another.

All departments said I owed additional money to cover escrow for insurance. They were all wrong. I was right. But I had to prove their mistake. I had to their job for them. They brag on their website about their 1200 or so employees working in Aurora, Colorado and Scottsbluff, Nebraska blah, blah, and how they are a division of Lehman Brothers. All I care about is someone who can do his or her job right and post my payment to my account and do it correctly. Apparently, there was a "keying" error and my Private Mortgage Insurance was entered twice-once for PMI and another time for insurance escrow. One employee told me that I was expected to make this payment-I shot right back at her and said "I'm not paying anything until we get this worked out." She didn't like that, but I did not appreciate being told to pay up! I guess they somehow "lost" the insurance certificate when my loan was sold. If I were to bill them for the amount of my time they have used, it would be several hundreds of dollars. I learned my lesson. I will watch these people like a hawk. They have lost my trust.
