&#160 Art Van Furniture, Wayne Rd., Westland, Michigan. My husband and I went to the Art Van Clearance Center looking for a Love Seat and Chair set. We found one that we really liked. But the chair and love seat both had sofa’s with them. Both sets were the same type of set. My husband asked the salesman if we could have the chair from one set and the love seat from the other.

The salesman was really nice and said that he did not see that it would be a problem to do that. He asked if we would wait a minute and he would ask his manager how to price the set. The manager was talking to another couple (who was black). The salesman approached the manager and asked him about the chair and love seat. The manager looked over at my husband and I(we are white) and said to the salesman I do not want to sell it like that. I asked why?

The sales Manager would not even come over and explain to us why he did not want to sell the chair and love seat together. He preferred to speak to us from his desk across the room. The manager got real agitated and said to the salesman sell it like that for $999.99. Then I said that is the price of the sofa and chair. He then looked at me and said, take it or leave it that is the price I am selling it for. Then he looked at the salesman and said in a real gruff voice “ I TOLD YOU I DID NOT WANT TO BREAK UP THE SETS”. We turned around and walked out of the store. We felt because we are white that the sales manager did not want to make the sale. When we got back home I called and talked to the manager of the whole store.

He did not come out and call me a liar, but he did say that he had known the sales manager for a long time and that the sales manager was real religious and he has never had a complaint against him. I am still thinking about suing Art Van Furniture and the sales manager for discrimination. No one black or white should be treated be treated like this by any sales organization. I have friends of color and I would never treat anyone like this and I do not like being treated like this. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ART VAN FURITURE. The customer service there is very bad. you are thinking of sueing them over this?! I hope you get discriminated against everywhere. You are nothing but self rightous. You cannot get everything you want. You are probably the type of person who gets pissed when a restaraunt won't let you substitute shrimp cocktail for the fries. Yeah, sue them! Just do us all a favor and do not have children, one of you is enough.
