Thrifty Car Rental
Why I will not rent from Thrifty in the Future:
I reserved a subcompact car from Thrifty to be picked up at the Portland International Airport (My spouse was out of town with one of our vechiles and my car is not running so I needed a car for local use.) When I went to pick up the car on July 10 the first thing I noticed was being charged the airport user fee. I told the agent that I should not have to pay this fee (I rented a car about one year ago and did not have to pay it) but he said there was othing that he could do. He then tried at least three different times to get me to upgrade to a larger car because it would only cost me $40.00 more. I consistently said I was not interested as I was only using the car for local use.
When I caught their shuttle bus to go to their lot I decided to wait in line to ask another agent about the user fee. There were only two agents on the desk and there were at least 10 people in line (several people were complaining about the wait). I decided to deal with the extra fee later and went out to get in my subcompact. But instead of a subcompact there was a larger car for me to use. I went back in and waited in line again until they were telling peole they were out of cars. I cut in line because I was not going to keep the car.
My irritation is that the agent at the lot said he could waive the airport fee and that they were out of subcompact cars. Instead of the person at the airport terminal saying that I was being upgraded to a larger car (I've had other car companies do that when they don't have the car I have reserved in stock) it seemed to me the agent was trying to convince me to upgrade because they did not want to waive the extra cost. Also, they had the pre-paid gas fee and the agent at the temrinal did not explain to me that if I returned the car it would be waived.
I will not rent from Thrifty but instead will go with another company even if the cost is more.
