On January 6, 2004, a young girl (around college aged) arrived at my home at approx. 12:15 PM telling me about her earning points by selling magazine subscriptions to go to Paris and to help with public speaking skills. I have a daughter myself I thought and did not mind supporting this young gal.
I was a bit hesitant at first but she made her way into my home, after I stated that I had very few clothes on, hadn't brushed my teeth or combed my hair yet, she pushed to come in and I let her slide by. The kids got excited and I told them OK I'll order them a subscription. After I consulted my husband and got the money, he told me to make sure that I ask for references and proof of ID. So before I was to make the transactions I asked for her credentials and she had NONE whatsoever. She tried to press on however until we came to an agreement that she was to come back later with a supervisor.
Fifteen minutes later they returned (very unprofessional like) and out of the entire van of people only one kid had an ID, not even the supervisor did. I didn't find his ID legit however and refuse to make the magazine transactions. The girl became very abrupt and rude, She stated thanks for wasting my time and when she left the house and slammed the door.
I opened it to peek out only to hear her words of vulgarity and explicitness. She hopped in the van and they speedily fled off. I wish I could've got that tag number. We are night owls here and at approx. 1 am the house began to take on an overwhelming urine smell. I researched the smell to find that my outside air conditioner unit had been urinated on and a brand new garbage can I had received a few hours early had empty Chinese food plates in it (I had not yet got a chance to place anything in it) which leads me to believe that my new friends came back for a little visit.
See what I got for trying to support a young girl with an innocent smile and devious attitude....lucky for me I didn't hand over my money...I knew something was fishy when I tried to call the number she gave me and it was consistently busy. Just before she left I found a complaint on the net of a story almost identical to mine. Same case scenario anyway. I'm very happy that I did not fall into the scam and I advise anyone to research and don't be afraid to say NO! Maybe a simple no will keep them from coming back afterall...Good Luck ALL
