Staples - misleading pricing on Staples brand of expandable files

staples misleading advertising follow by stupid rule

Went to Staples for first time for home office supplies on 1/6/04. The staples brand of expandable files had a price posted onyellow background of $16 for two, $8 for one.

I took one, but the cashier rang up $10.99. A saleman first checked and then a snippy manager. It was pointed out that the white sign next to the yellow said $10.99 each..while the yellow sign meant $16 for 2, which means $8 for one {only if you buy two). I admit I was taken in by this at first. So, I decided to purchase two..One was alphabetical, so I chose a monthly folder for the second. The cashier rang them up and each listed $10.99 as the purchase price.

Back to the manager. He said I had to purchase two of the same kind of folders to get 2/$16, altho there were several varities of the sale price items. Foolishly, I purchased one at $10.99 and left the other there. But the

idea of having to buy the same item out of several similar sales items is a foolish business practice. I won't

go to Staples anymore -- If you do, be careful and read everything.
