Apple Computer
I bought an Apple IMAC back in March 2003. In early November, my hard drive crashed after I had to cut the power because the computer had froze. The book says to do this if all else fails. I understand this is the risk and accepted my fate.
I brought my computer to CompUSA on November 15, 2003. Unfortunately for me, CompUSA is not authorized to work on Apples while they are still under the manufacturer's warranty. I say unfortunately because oday's date is January 29, 2004 and Apple is still not finished with my computer! Now, they'll tell you that they contract these repairs to another company, Global Service Solutions, I believe.
But should the fact that they hire incompetent contractors make me feel better about the fact that I have not had a computer for two and a half months? I wrote a letter to Richard Johnson, who was listed as the VP of Retail. That was about a week and a half ago. Now I feel like Apple Service is not only incompetant, but they don't care either! If you want to address this with a supervisor through their 800 line, you should first know, their supervisors don't take calls. Of course, you'll never know this if you don't have the patience to wait. I have called twice.
Once I was on the phone for 1 hr 15 minutes, the second time was about 45 minutes. Nothing was gained from either call. I usually stick to speaking with the person that is fixing my computer from Global Service Solutions. I have his personal cell phone number. I keep getting a song and a dance. To give credit where it's due, Apple makes wonderful products that are easy to use and seem much more stable than any PC I've owned, (this is my first Apple).
But with service like this, who cares. I'm getting to old to deal with companies that have bad service and then a lack of conscience in dealing with it. My next step is to send Steve Jobs a letter. I'll be curious to see if it all comes from the top. Buyer Beware, Apple don't care!
