CIC Credit Monitoring Service - unauthorized $ 79.95 charge
A company that advertises all over Yahoo.com and several other reputable sites called consumerinfo.com and freecreditreport.com advertised that I could get a free credit report. But to do so, I had to I disclose my visa account No. to them (which they said that needed it for reference purposes to confirm my identity and look into my accounts). I never could get the sign-in to work.
I exchanged three phone calls with them where they told me to email my questions and two emails (which I kept) where they told me to call with questions. Each time I was told the problem would be resolved in approximately 3 days. Guess what, it never was. At any rate, when my next visa statement came (January 27th)I had a $79.95 charge from a company called CIC Credit Monitor Service in California and I couldnt imagine what it was. The only thing I could think of was that on Nov 6 I had applied for a free credit report to consumerinfo.com, but I had never agreed to a $79.95 annual membership. So, I did a Google search on the company, which lead me to complaints.com. Ironically, or tragically I guess, when I performed my search on complaints.com there was an ad at the top of the search result page for freecreditreport.com which is guess who yep, consumerinfo.com. On a brighter note, I read someone elses account of their interaction with CIC Credit Monitor Service and I figured out where that charge had come from. So, I decided to enter my own complaint and Im currently contesting the charge through my credit card company. How do they get away with this. Its totally criminal. Sarah G
