Dishnet DSL - Cable modem - High speed Interenet connection - Issues
Hi I am Sankar, resident of Nanganallur, Chennai. Recently (Nov 2003) I took a Cable modem connection from Dishnet DSL limited, for Internet access. As part of the installation charges I paid Rs.9704 and as per my plan I am paying Rs. 995 as my monthly rent for the access. The initial amount, which I have paid, is a non-refundable amount. Things were going fine with few hiccups then and there. I had some connection/ billing issues, which took their own time to resolve. This month (Jan 2004) I shifted my residence within Nanganallur (just two streets away from my previous residence). I approached Dishnet to shift my connection and had the shock of life. Dishnet demanded a heavy charge of 5500 rupees for shifting. I was quite surprised and asked them why this charge and was told this is the standard charge for shifting throughout India. When I asked them why wasnt I told about this before, the Dishnet representative told it was not required to be informed when I took the connection. My questions are -> I have paid Rs.9000 and have taken the connection just 2 months back, now just for shifting 2 streets away why should I pay another 5500 rupees? -> How is it reasonable to quote same price for shifting to other state in India and even within the same apartment? I have got software installed, Modem and hardware connections available in my system and only thing which has to be shifted is the cable wire which flows through the terrace and Dishnet has wide spread connections across Nanganallur and this new connection is not a big deal at all. -> If this charge is fixed then why was I not informed well in advance, while I was taking the connection? If known, I wouldnt have gone for Dishnet cable modem services at all. The initial 9000 rupees which I paid is non-refundable, now I have the choice of loosing the initial 9000 rupees or recurring 5500 on every residence shift I make. Pls. beware of these sorts of cheats by the service providers and make sure that you check all these things while going for a service. I am planning to take this to consumer court. Pls. let me know what is the procedure, whom and where to contact and escalate the issue. Thanks Sankar Sankaranarayanan S
