Panasonic AGDVC-7mini dv digital camcorder - needs servicing message - repair hassle

Panasonic

I purchased a brand new Panasonic AGDVC-7mini dv digital camcorder on 10/23/03 from Profeel in New York. I had it for approximately twelve days, and used it about three hours total when I began to have mechanical problems with it. I kept receiving a "Needs Servicing" message everytime I turned it

on so after waiting on hold for an hour, I was told by Panasonic to send it to one of their certified service centers in Philadelphia. was told that it would take about a week to ten days to diagnose and fix the problem. I sent the camera on 11/07/03. At the time of this letter it is now 01/25/04. I had been told that Panasonic did not have the part on hand, which is a circuit board for the camera. I inquired as to why after so much

time since it is supposed to be a new camera that they couldn't just replace it with another new camera free of defects and was told by the service center that that is not how Panasonic works and that I should try contacting them to find out if they would do it. After several attempts to contact Panasonic by phone I decided that waiting on the phone for more than an hour was just to long. They never returned any of my emails either. I am starting a small video business and I don't have a lot of money at this time,(as a videographer could probably tell by the camera), and being without this camera has set me back in startup time. Is there anyone at Panasonic who would feel compelled to lend a hand here? I know that Panasonic is supposed to be a reputable company. I just pray someone will step to the plate. Thank You. Marc A

We have had similar problems with ours, turns out they turn out junk, no repair facilities that amount to anything, and are rumoured to be filing Chapter 11. Both Panasonic & Sylvania are listed on the do not buy list of electronics, good ones are Sony, & JVC.

Kodak unfortunatly has been receiving a bad rap on their quality control also.
