CHARTER COMMUNICATION
My dad was living with me in Miami Beach. He suffered with Alzheimer's disease and was not interested in anything but sitting in front of the television. I had digital cable installed so he could have a little more variety.
He channel surfed all day and never really viewed anything. I had never once rented any movies from cable companies and when the original product was installed, I was told you needed to call an 800 number to order any movie. The technician who installed the digital box did not speak English and never left a booklet or instructions.
A few weeks later I became very ill and was in bed for two weeks. I would get up to make my dad meals, etc., and go back to bed. One night I heard odd noises coming from his room. When I entered there was an X rated movie on the television and he was very upset and trying to push all the buttons to remove it.
I called the cable company to complain and ask how this could have happened. They responded by saying that all you needed to do was push a blue button and you can easily rent a movie. I told them to STOP this service. They sent me a bill for over $3,000 stating that in nine (9) days we had rented four hundred and fifty movies (450). I was shocked since we never rented a movie and because he had been trying to remove the movie from the screen, he had been pushing the blue button.
They have been totally unwilling to talk to me or work this out. My father died from complications eight months later. They have ruined my credit and I cannot afford to pay for a ridiculous fee. I have tried to call everyone I can think of to resolve this issue and cannot get this resolved or removed from my credit report. I do not know where to turn. I am a single working women with little income and now my credit is ruined. Please help me.
