McAfee Internet Security Suite - from Staples - denied $ 30 rebate - told that postmark date on rebate submission was after the deadline for this rebate

McAfee Internet Security Suite

On November 6, 2003, I bought McAfee Internet Security Suite at Staples. It had a $30 rebate form from McAfee with it. I fully complied with the rebate rules: included the UPC code, copy of the front cover of my earlier version's manual, sales receipt, original form, etc. I mailed the rebate request well within the 2-week submission deadline (I mailed it on November 17th, 2003). There was no expiration date on the rebate form, only the 2-weeks after purchase requirement. Today, JANUARY 31, 2004, I received a postcard from McAfee stating "the postmark date on your rebate submission was after the deadline for this rebate." I called McAfee, spent many minutes navigating through voice prompts, only to get a "too bad" message when I was done. How can I be responsible for mail after I have placed it into a mailbox? Give me a break...and how many others have had this same issue - great way for a company to save the $30 rebate intended for the buyer! I have heard of cost savings in business, but I think this is deplorable! Then, to make matters worse, this software has crashed my Windows XP system since it was installed. So I called for McAfee tech support, only to be told there is a charge for such! Damn, if I buy a car and it doesn't work the dealer fixes it under warranty, same goes for everything else I buy - the warranty covers it. McAfee just takes my money and runs back into its cave. I have bought McAfee software since it first came out and have upgraded every year, with rebates involved each time, but this was the last cent of my money they will ever see - the latest rev of the software crashes Windows XP, and they have not lived up to their rebate obligations! DO NOT BUY MCAFEE SOFTWARE WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS - NO FREE TECH SUPPORT, NO REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE, FAILURE TO HONOR REBATES, AND SOFTWARE THAT CRASHES YOUR XP SYSTEM.... Buy NORTON instead!
