Frigidaire Gallery Front Load Washer - repaired six ditmes - lock replaced, timer replaced, pump cleared

Frigidaire Gallery Front Load Washer

Hi,

I purchased a Frigidaire Gallery Front Load Washer (and matching dryer) in July 1999. It seemed to be a great product until two years into ownership (and of course, after the warranty ran out). In the last two years, the washer has needed repair on 6 different occasions. The door lock has been replaced, the timer has been replaced, the pump had to be checked and cleared, and so on.

The last repair was because the wire leading to the timer had somehow disconnected from the timer. According to the service tech, it could be because of the drum being unbalanced. Now, there seems to be a problem with the drum actually getting up to the correct speed in the spin cycle! Help! Any advice or information from fellow owners would be very helpful!

When I called the service number to complain, I got a MAJOR run-around (all the supervisors seemed to be in a meeting at the same time!) and was on the phone for at least 45 minutes trying to get the issue resolved. I was also offered the 40% off coupon towards the purchase of a new washer. I refused and asked why should I have to buy a new washer when the one I have is only about 4 years old? How long are washing machines supposed to last??

I told the service guy (who must have been from a call center overseas), that I have older appliances out in my garage that still work, why would this new product be broken to the point that it should be replaced already?? I was told that I would get a phone call from a manager/supervisor with in 24 hours, and of course, never got a phone call.

Also, I live in Michigan, and apparently there are only two companies that can actually service this machine. Does anyone know of any other repair companies that will fix this thing? The one that I've dealt with previously has two techs that work on these machines, one is a tool, the other guy is great, but it would be nice to know I could go somewhere else if need be.

I am so frustrated with this machine, I'd like to get rid of it, but probably couldn't sell it for $50!!! Does anyone have any recommendations for a better washer/dryer for my next house?? Thank you, and good luck to all Frigidaire owners! Maybe we should start a class action lawsuit of our own!

Best wishes,

Julie

I also have the same washer and it is one problem after another. The knobs break easily, the door lock broke, it doesn't spin and The most recent problem is a cracked basket, which the repairman said I would be better off buying a new machine.

this machine wasn't cheap and I expected it to live up to its brand name.

I too have the exact same problem. My washer also just broke down and costs too much to fix. I have called Electrolux 4 times and got the run around too. This should not happen to a machine less than 10 years old. I think this a really big problem. I think a class action suit sounds good!

My gallery front loader is less than 4 years old and has a major repair needed. The tech said the main drum and bearings are worn out and it all needs replaced. It seems this is a common item for the gallery series. This is a piece of junk and i WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this washer to anyone. Electrolux should be ashamed.
