I was astounded when I received their quote for a move from Youngstown, Ohio to Bakersfield, California. At under $2000, it was less than half of almost every other company that I had contacted. All they wanted was a $300 deposit. Thats when the trouble began. They gave me a "firm" pick up date of July 29th 2004, owing to the fact that my lease expired July 31st, 2004. I was also informed by Amit that they would contact me 24 hours in advance to make sure that someone would be at the pickup location. No problem, that gives me two days to clean. The 28th comes and goes with no contact. So I call Progressive...Amit is not in at the moment and I am transferred to Customer service. I was informed that my pick up had been moved to the 30th of July. A little unhappy, but things happen right. The 30th comes and goes with no sign of progressive. So I call again. This time I was told that the movers in the van hadnt left Illinois until that morning and would arrive until the 31st. NOW, I'm getting pissed off. The utilities are being shut off in the morning and no movers. So I get the utilities shut off delayed until after 6:00 pm in case some thing else happens. Lo and behold, it does happen. At 2:00 pm, I get a cell phone call. It's the movers. Their in Indiana and say that they'll be in Ohio shortly. They figure out that they'll pick up my stuff at around 5 pm. Extremely cranky but there's nothing else I can do at that point but stick with them...My lease expires in under 10 hours. Skipping ahead. They get there and get everything packed into a 31 foot box truck. Quick and efficient, just the way I like it. I scheduled the pick up for the 14th of August, 2004. The driver of the pick up van said that would be fine because it would take them at least 8 days to get to california and that they had a drop off in Cleveland, Ohio to make first. To make a long story less long, I drove from Ohio to California (I cant fly) in 36 hours straight. On friday, the 6th, I think, I get a call from AY transport telling me that they want to drop of ny shipment the following day. I told them that they had to hold the shipment until the 14th of August as agreed upon because that was the day that I had scheduled to be at the new location. They agreed without comment. The 14th arrives and here comes my stuff. It's shrink wrapped into a large pile on the lift gate of a rental truck. I am completely shocked. What had almost completely filled a 31 foot box truck on loading in now compressed into a pile that is half on/half off the extended liftgate of a rental truck. I had packed 144 boxes of various goods in Ohio. 32 of these were clearly marked FRAGILE or GLASS. And not a single box was the original size or shape that it was packed. Some of the boxes had holes in them from where a forklift fork had punched through the side wall. Then comes the final straw. I had shipped 4 book cases with them, that I was assured did not need be disassembled. When they were delivered and unwrapped, not a single one of the cases was usable. Joints had been snapped and splintered. Pins and nails had been removed. I was aghast! One of the cases even had a metal bar bracing it on the inside so that it would stand upright. The two delivery men removed the brace and the case fell over, completely destroying itself in the process. My entertainment center was no better off. Two of the uprights, that prety much bear the weight of a 37" tv were broken from the placement pins and standing at an angle. The movers even tried to place the tv on the stand anyway rather than on the floor where I told them. I have filled out their claims form on the net. (Which asks for repair value) and tried talking to a human at progressive numerous times. You'll notice, that I said tried. I have determined that from here, where I've vented a little. My next trip it to small claims court and the attorney general's office MARYLEE B Click this link to e-mail the above consumer: Email User Consumer From: Message Author (click here to email author) (no email address available) Date: Tuesday, 07-Dec-04 00:00:00 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
