In March 2001 I purchased a Huskee, Rear Tine Tiller 21A-450 Series from Tractor Supply for approximately $700.00. I use the tiller once a year to till up sand. This year the tillers foreword and reverse motion stopped working.

I contacted an authorized MTD repair center and as a result it cost me $238.00 to have it fixed. I talked to the service technician about the problem and was told that a weldment between the gear and the wheel shaft broke. I felt that this was a manufacturing defect and he agreed. This tiller does not get abused or used under strenuous circumstances. I contacted MTD customer service to register a complaint and the person I talked too reminded me that there is only a two year warrantee on this product. Nevertheless. I purchased a Yard Machine by MTD. This rear tine tiller purchase is the biggest mistake of my life. It is model 21AA412A500. Sounds like the same machine as the Huskee. I also spent over $700.00 dollars. Since my purchase, I have spent over $400.00 more to fix. To this day it is still broke. MTD does not even answer emails. This company is disgusting. They make a number of brands. Check very carefully before any purchase. They say that customer service is what they have. YA RIGHT! For a tiller that is about 6 years old, used 3 or 4 times a year, it should be brand new still. At least 2 of the six years, it wasn't used. What a joke. It collects dust in my shed. MTD could care less. The dealer that tried to fix it in 2007, was told by the MTD Rep, that they had a problem with these tillers. Only problem is my serial number is not in their list. Sorry about my luck I guess. I will never purchase anything by this company again.
