Etrade is not the route for a small invester.

 

I opened anl account with Etrade ($1,500) several years ago. I knew it would cost me $19.99 to buy, and $19.99 to sell, but at the time I opened my account I did not know, for example there was a $25.00 quarterly charge or $60 to transfer an account.

 

So if you purchased the "hot stock" a few years ago, Enron types, Peregine Systems etc those stock bellied up and are worthless or may only be worth a few cents a share. To sell those stock it would cost $23.00 to sell plus $10 if you wanted moneies to be returned to you. It you decide not to sell it would cost you $25. quarterly to hold on to the stock.

 

If your stock is less than 19.99, Etrade keeps the stock in exchanged for its fee.
