Verizon Wireless Complaint This complaint concerns Bell Atlantic Mobile aka Verizon Wireless. In March of 1999 I moved from White Plains, NY to Mahopac, NY. I did not have any phone service due to ongoing screwups with Verizon. But that is another complaint. Verizon took 2 months to install phone lines to my residence. In the meantime, I needed a phone. So I signed a 1 year contract with Verizon Wireless. Since my credit was bad, they forced me to pay a $500 deposit. In the few months that I had with Verizon Wireless, all I had was aggravation. Every single bill that I received from them was wrong. Every time I made a call from ahopac, the tower in Poughkeepsie would pick up the signal from my cell phone. They then would charge me for roaming even though I was home in my home territory. That was just the Roaming Charges. I would frequently call the city. When I would look at the bill, I would see different charges for the same call made minutes apart. Half of the calls would have various surcharges attached to them; while other calls made minutes apart would not have the surcharges. When I would talk to the customer service reps they would tell me that those were the normal surcharges. I would inquire how come they are not on the other calls. They would finally admit after a long discussion that the charges were wrong, and that they would be issuing me a credit. I would get the credits the next month. I would then ask for corrected bills. The customer service reps would say that we do not issue corrected bills ; we can only issue credits. It would get real confusing trying to figure out which credits were for which calls. Every so often, I would change my calling plan to take advantage of additional minutes at a higher monthly charge; or choose a cheaper plan for fewer minutes. It all depended upon how many extra minutes I was being charged for. Every time I changed my calling plan, they would extend my service contract for an additional year without my permission. When I contested this they said that changing the plan automatically extends the 1 year contract for an additional year. This was never in my contract. Every month there was a problem. Each month I would have to argue with them for hours on end over the various charges on the bills. Finally, I decided to just terminate the service. They charged the $175 early termination fee. I did not pay it, and they confiscated my $500 security deposit. The account went into collections. I finally settled with the collection company for $250 additional. Verizon Wireless stinks. I would never enter into another contract with them. As a sidenote, I now use their prepaid plan. It is only $30 every 60 days. The customer service reps are real nasty. I will probably switch to another provider, except that I will need to purchase another cellphone. Signed,. An Irate Verizon Wireless Customer Edward J. P
