GAPcard
I recently opened a GAPcard account, I love GAP clothes. I charged once on my card. When I received my bill I paid the bill and mailed it three days before it was due. The next month I received a bill for $25.00 in late fees. I called the company, asked that they reverse the late charge because I didn't believe that I owed one and closed the account when they said no.
I don't use credit cards very much and hate to pay finance or any other charges so I pay them off. Since then I have received a bill every month for another late fee on top of the first late fee plus finance charges. I have spoken to several people there to try to clear this up and have been told that they would reverse all of the charges except the first late charge (which has never been done).
They continue to bill me now for $140.00 + and are now calling me everyday even though, as explained on their bill, I have written the company a letter to try dispute the charges. I am a bookkeeper and call companies often to have late charges reversed and they are always willing to do so. I paid the money that I borrowed on the card for my one purchase.
I would like to warn anyone else not to get a GAPcard, they are harassing me over one late charge which I did not incur. DON"T EVER GET A GAPCARD!!!!!!

You know, they ar just bunches of crooks.~_~ From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Thursday, 10-Apr-08 11:58:12 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI have had a Gap card for several years and have NEVER had a problem. I always mail in my payments, and they always send my rewards certificates. If you shop at the Gap a lot, like I do, I think it is a wonderful perk to have. They upgraded me last year to Gap Silver Visa, which is great because you get free shipping on all online purchases. Remember to mail your payments at least 7 days in advance of your due date, which is the same for all credit cards, and late fees shouldn't be a problem. I learned from a different card when I was younger that the postmark date doesn't matter...it is when they actually receive it that matters. I've read at least two articles about specific instances where people have been scammed on other things and the magazines have brought the complaint to the company and the victim has been reimbursed. I mail checks in for all four credit cards I own and never had a problem until a few months ago. I mailed a check in for my BR card the day I received the bill, then was charged late fees a few weeks later. Customer service was helpful and said that maybe it got lost and I should put a stop payment on the check and pay again. The DAY AFTER I did so (incurring a $20 fee from my bank) BR posted my check, then charged me for a bounced check. Customer service this time was extremely unhelpful and didn't erase the charges until I threatened to cancel the card. I thought it was just a fluke since I'd mailed checks to them before, and decided I would still send my Gap card payment the next month by mail. Once again, I paid as soon as I received the bill, with over 3 weeks for it to arrive, and it still has not been received. I called Custer Service the day before it was due, but they never offered to waive late fees or extend my due date - I was just told that she'd put a note on the account. Now, a month after I mailed the check in, they STILL have not posted the payment to my account and I have been charged a late fee and a finance fee. If you must get a Gap or Banana Republic card, NEVER mail in a payment! And of course they deny responsibility, but the post office probably hasn't been as unreliable as they'd have you believe it is in a hundred years! I think I'll direct Customer Service to this website when I call again in a few minutes. When approaching my due date and realizing I couldn't get the check out in time for it to get there in plenty of time, I called the customer service number and they gladly postponed my due date by 10 days to avoid a late charge. They've been very friendly and helpful to me. I opened an account at purchase time months ago to get a discount on some jeans. I don't get ANY mails from them at all. This morning I get a call from a collection agency saying I owe them $20. These guys are complete crooks! NEVER GET A GAP CARD AS THEY ARE COMPLETE CROOKS! I've never received ONE. Now they have lowered the rewards. I'm canceling mine today. When I realized how difficult they make it to pay on time, and without fees, I closed the account. The operator thought it was funny. Oh well, they have lost my business.
