Banfield pet hospital / wellness plan Banfield pet hospital - Garner NC I purchased a wellness plan at Banfield for my dog. A while after purchasing the plan I transferred ownership of the dog to a new owner. I was told if the new owner came to the store and gave them her bank account information that the monthy payment would stop coming out of my account and start coming out of the new owners account.
I was ok with this and thought that it made sense. Well the new owner signed up for a new plan for the dog and now bansfield is getting paid double for the same dog. They have on record that I gave the dog to the new owner with the exact date and new owners name. So, they know I'm not just making a story up to tell them. I called Bansfield and asked to cancel my plan since the new owner had a plan for the same dog.
They refused and said it was against the contract. It just seems that it would also be against some policy to charge customers twice for the same service for the same dog. At first I thought purchasing the wellness plan would keep my cost down, but with the inflated prices that Bansfield has versas other vets, in my opnion you would be better off with out a wellness plan at another vet.

You should never perform a procedure you're uncomfortable with. Better to ask for help than to overdose, miscalculate, etc. The best way to learn anything in this field is hands-on experience. That's why it's called a PRACTICE. Anyone blessed enough to work with animals should be thankful for any training they receive, as most people have to pay lots of money to learn technical aspects of vet care. If an employer provides this training free of charge to you, stop complaining. Banfield customers should know that the primary effort at their pet hospitals is to SELL--vaccines, treatments, specialized food products, and most importantly, their wellness plans. That is the primary function of Pet Nurses and that becomes very obvious when you go thru their training. That's not to say you can't get decent pet care there, but as a customer, you will always be pushed to buy more treatments and products than your pet actually requires. Banfield's goal is to generate a steady revenue stream through their Wellness Plans, to treat as many pets as they can squeeze in during a day, and to sell as many products and treatments as possible. Another thing consumers should be aware of regarding Banfield is that they generally don't hire certified veterinary technicians because they don't want to pay the going rate for such employees. Rather their hire people off the street thru advertising their Pet Nurse jobs at sites such as Monster.com. Most of these hirees have had NO previous veterinary, laboratory, or medical experience. As a new employee, you're asked to go thru their online training program which does not provide the essential hands-on experience needed to work in a medical setting. As a new hire, I was expected to be up and running as a vet tech in about 2 weeks. Real, certified vet techs go to school for at least a year to get their certification. During my first several weeks, I was asked to perform laboratory procedures that I wasn't totally familiar with. This practice of hiring people off the street and giving them limited training puts your pet at risk. My advice would be to avoid Banfield and go to a regular veterinarian. You'll probably end up paying about the same and your pet will most likely receive better care.
