Today I tried to cancel an AOL account that I had been providing to my son and ex-wife. I was told by the AOL customer service rep, Erik, that he had technical problems and he could not cancel my account.

He told me their technical problems would be resolved on September 3 and told me I need to call back on that date to cancel my account.

Unfortunately, the account billing date is five days before this. I have apparently reached an impasse with AOL, and now I plan to contact my bank to inform them not to accept any further charges to my account from AOL.

Needless to say, I encourage everyone to cancel their AOL accounts - better, faster and cheaper internet access is readily available from providers who do not jerk their customers around or steal from them.
