Verizon DSL - hard to cancel DSL Verizon DSL - hard to cancel DSL
Verizon made it hard to cancel DSL and is generally going to hell DIFFICULTY CANCELLING VERIZON DSL My local Verizon office, where I signed up for Verizon DSL, could not cancel it for me. I was referred to a number out-of-state, and told to call it early in the morning to next day, due to the time difference. This is the number I was given: NUMBER TO CANCEL VERIZON DSL: 1-800-567-6789 (Don't know if this covers the whole country) I went to the Verizon website and absolutely could not find any way to cancel there. I even did a keyword search and there was nothing under the word cancel. Shame on them. Verizon is a bad company. They do a lot of things that embarrass even their own employees. You can see this on the webpage "To Hell with Verizon DSL" http://www.scottmanning.com/journal/000494.php Do you have something to say to the CEO of Verizon? He is:
To: Ivan Seidenberg Chairman & CEO Verizon Communications 1095 Avenue of the Americas, 36th Floor New York, NY 10036 Phone: (212) 395-2121 Fax: (212) 921-2971 All info here IS current as of August 2004 If you want to see Verizon's last quarterly report, try: http://www.edgaronline.com/bin/edgardoc/finSys_main.asp?dcn=0001193125-04-134114&nad= If this link doesn't work find Verizon's company profile on Yahoo Financial and find the quarterly report there. You can find the names of their board of directors and some other corporate officers by looking in the report. The following e-mail address for the company is given by Yahoo Financial. It is probably for investors or something, although I don't know. Email User
If you want the mailing address for a CEO of a corporation, so far I have had the best luck online by going to Yahoo Financial and looking up company profiles. Offline, calling a reference librarian is your best bet. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO ANSWER A PHONE POLITELY AND NORMALLY?
When I called my local Verizon office the phone wasn't anwered normally. Instead of being able to speak, I was asked for my name and phone number. Very 1984. In recent years, the national Verizon office has forced all the regional phone companies it owns to switch over to a much more inconvenient voice mail system.
Their ringing didn't even work right, i.e., somehow it rang too many times before the voicemail came on and people were hanging up before that. It took way too much to get them to fix it, all the while protesting that nothing could be wrong. I would concur with the Verizon employees that wrote in here. Yeah, and I hate that slogan they make you listen to when you are calling directory assistance, "Making Progress Everyday" As a wise man once said, when you are on edge of an abyss, progress is defined as a step backward. From what I can see, this Ivan Seidenberg guy and his cronies have to go. Break up Verizon like they did to Ma Bell in the eighties and bring back local phone companies. They did it before. Years ago, you used to be able to get local directory assistance number for free. The operator picked up the phone right away and was polite and professional. Long distance information operators were in the city you were inquiring about. They were much more accurate and helpful than they are now. Almost all the phone company employees where I live were gracious, professional and competent. They took pride in their work. I'm not that old, I was born in the sixties. In general, phones and phone companies are going to hell. I use phones with bells, the old-fashioned ones. I used to have one where you could adjust the ring volume or turn it off. The latest phone like this doesn't have that option. I used to have answering machines where you could tape the outgoing and/or ingoing messages and not lose them when there was a power outage. It was never that big a deal replacing the tapes. I could adjust the number of rings from 0-10 or more. I used to be able to turn off both the ringing on the phone and all noise from the answering machine if I wished to but still have the phone free to make outgoing calls. I can't do that now.
I even drilled a hole in the back of a dresser drawer for the cords and placed my answering machine there so I wouldn't hear the click when it went on. That was in the 1980's. I feel annoyed and at a loss from changes since then. I think people are also much ruder and more scattered from dealing with all the incursions and complications of modern technology. I feel that's it's a shame. Arrogant male corporate heads and technology-obsessed nerds seem to be driving society. Right off a cliff. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE TO BUY AN OLD-FASHIONED PHONE THAT RINGS WHERE YOU CAN TURN THE RING OFF OR TURN IT UP AND DOWN, PLEASE E-MAIL ME. SIMILARLY, IF YOU KNOW WHERE I COULD GET A NON-DIGITAL ANSWERING MACHINE WITH A TAPE FOR THE OUTGOING MESSAGE, PLEASE E-MAIL ME.

They were rude to me, but I got the job done FINALLY!!!! I will never sign up for verizon dsl again. All this just because I had to move (to a location that already had internet so I could not even transfer my service)... shouldn't be that hard From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Wednesday, 29-Dec-10 07:50:14 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI couldn't agree with you more. We had much better control over things back then. Now I'm looking to confirm that phone no. to cancel DSL is still good. I just called & there's an outgoing message saying there is no one there, please call back during business hours. THEN, they fail to say What their business hours are! I now suspect it has become a dead end number. No answer, no assistance, no nothing. I'm guessing this is a common problem since God only knows how many phone numbers the phone company will send you to on a ruse. It is knasty & ugly & the FCC, FTC & US Supreme Court should hear of it. The operator was expecting me to be upset. I tried a new tactic - I refused to give a reason, just kept repeating, "I want to cancel DSL". She tried politely at least 6 time to get me to give a reason, but it was clear that this was to try to keep me as a customer and even sell me new services. I had considered Verizon FIOS, no way in hell I will EVER sign onto ANY Verizon services after the runaround I got. The first person took all of my information, taking a good 10 minutes, then informed me he could not cancel DSL but would have to "transfer me the right people". After another 10 min. wait, I tried calling back, got caught in phone menu hell and ended up talking to a tech in Pennsylvania, supposedly. He refused to say what office. He said he would transfer me - I could hear other people laughing in the background just before he "transferred" me. This loser sent me to a customer service person in Virginia who turned out to be excellent and who gave me the number at the beginning of the post. Hope you're reading this, Verizon. You remind me of cable companies BEFORE satellite TV came out. News flash: you have competitors! I usually get transfered to 2-3 different numbers each time. although they have FIOS, it is totally not worth it. How can a company as big as them get away with this? First, I feel that it is important to understand why I was elated to do business with GTE before it became Verizon so that this matter can be placed in proper perspective. When Pacific Bell was in business, their attitude became You need our business, and if you want telephone service, you have to use us. We dont need you. Well, I trashed them and found another local telephone service that served my needs just fine. Pacific Bell has since merged with Southern Bell to become SBC which inherited the same attitude and has since merged for their survival with AT&T as you well know. Verizon has somehow acquired this same attitude, and it is time that I join Time Warner for their Cable TV Service, High Speed Internet Service, Local Telephone Service and Unlimited Long Distance Services with all that Verizon has to offer and a lot more for much less money per month. Furthermore, after doing business with Verizon since before they became Verizon and having been a customer in good standing all these years, I am surprised for much fewer products and services, Verizon required a credit check and a deposit. Time Warner acts like they want my business, and, therefore, I am giving them my business. I found a link that describes my problem very well at this time: http://www.complaints.com/directory/2004/august/12/9.htm . Because of the poor customer service and the arrogance of Verizon as a company, I terminated my High Speed Internet Service online before I went out of town on January 15, 2008 because I could not get through the 1-800-483-4000 and 1-800-483-1000 numbers to properly close this service. Finally, I reminded Verizon by email after I received my phone bill for $266.07 dated January 16, 2008 to prorate my Internet charges effective January 19 when it should have been January 15 when I made every attempt both online and by phone to cancel the service. Today I received a response to that email as follows: RE: Verizon.com Consumer email response [#18030480] From: customersupport AT verizon.com Sent: Tue 1/29/08 8:23 PM To: nolankingston AT worldcitizenssitministries.com Dear K. When I finally got connected the person on the other line and I got disconnected somehow, and I called again to get busy signals, circular option messages, and messages that Verizon was closed. I am not going to pay for service I did everything in my power to cancel. Because my High Speed Internet service was officially terminated by me on January 15, I would like you assist me in making the termination of my account possible without further charges. I want to also close all my telephone service with Verizon effective January 31, 2008 without further complications. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to call me at (661) 942-4626 before January 31 (when Ill have a new phone number with Time Warner Cable) or email me at NolanKingston AT WorldCitizensSITMinistries.com or write me at the following address: Nolan A.
