Please post this complaint about a McDonald's restaurant in Carterville, Illinois. April 5, 2004 Dear Sir/Madam: I want to start this complaint with questions. Are McDonald's franchises obligated to use McDonald's products for packaging their McDonald's products under the McDonald's name? If a franchise decides to participate in a promotion of McDonald's, such as, the dollar menu, is the franchise obligated to use the required packaging materials of McDonald's?

Can a franchise use the "small fry paper package" in place of the "cardboard package" used for the McDonald's promotion "McValue Fry?" If a franchise can use the package used to package a small fry order to package a McValue fry order, how does the amount of fries given in the prescribed amount of the McValue fry fit the small package? On April 4, 2004 at approximately 6:30 pm, I bought 3 happy meals and 1 double cheeseburger with "McValue fries." The fries were overcooked and hard, but more importantly I was given McValue fries in a bag used for regular fries. When I complained to the manager on duty, she told me that they use the regular fry package for McValue fries. I told her that the amount of fries in the small bag does not compare to the usual amount of fries that come with the carton used by other McDonald's restaurants for McValue fries. I told her that she could not charge me for McValue fries giving me fries in a bag used for regular fries. The manager told me that this McDonald's sells McValue fries in the small bag. I returned my order of 1 double cheeseburger with McValue fries. I wanted to return my order for my grandchildren, but they had started eating their food. I did not want anything from this McDonald's store. I asked the manager on duty to give me the owners name. I was given the names, John & Mary Moreland. The store manager gave the name of Tina Hale. I was given the store phone number of 618-985-2070. I was given store # 24046. What is the consumer's relief? How or Why does corporate McDonald's allow a franchise to operate in this manner? If a franchise is allowed to operate in this manner, consumers should be aware that corporate McDonald's allows double standards. Respectfully submitted,
