Dear complaints.com, I have never been much of a complainer, but this business did it for me. I have contacted Better Business Bureau, Bureau of Automotive Repairs, BadBusinessBureau.com and I am about to file a "small claim" with Pasadena Superior Court. This is my story. As most of Purrfect Auto unsuspecting customers, one day I recieved a coupon in the mail for an oil change. I just arrived from the East Coast and I wanted my car checked out. At the counter of Purrfect Auto in Pasadena I met Harry, a very friendly service advsior. He told me that as a Caltech person I will get a special discount on a tune-up. I did one not long ago but I thought it can't hurt. I left my car there and a few hours later I got a call from Harry saying that I also need to fix my brakes. I suspected that it might be the case as I was hearing a strange screeching noise every once in a while. What I did not expect is an $800+ bill at the end. I thought I was buying a Honda to avoid paying so much for repairs. But I am a very naive person and I thought Harry, being such a nice guy, could not rip me off and since he said I have to do it I had to. A few days after I left the shop I noticed that the screeching noise I was worried about was still there. In addition there was a new noise, as if from the old brake pads, every time I brake. I brought the car back, only to find out that to get rid of the screeching noise I have to replace rack-n-pinion for an additional $450. I was devastated. I just spent $800 to have my car run "purrfect" and now another expense? I declined until the better times, hoping that at least they will fix the "new" noise. They did not. In fact, I asked them about it more then five times and as I realized later their "fix" was probably to spray some kind of lubricant to temporarily (usually lasted about 1 day) eliminate the noise. Would I be a little smarter I would never go to Purrfect Auto again. But I am too naive for that. Next time, a few months later, they were fixing my window regulator. In addition to the poorly done job (my driver door handle is now wobbly) they broke the mirror regulator. Of course, they claimed it was broken at the same time as the window regulator, which according to Honda mechanics is physically impossible because of the design. Anyway, another couple of hunder dollars waisted. Now I have to agree I feel like a complete idiot going there the third time... Some of you will laugh but I am sure some can relate. This time they were replacing my timing belts. This is when I realized how incompetent Harry was. After they replaced the belts and the water pump (over $500) a very loud noise came up and they insisted of further repairs (over $200). I asked Harry about the details of the problem and he just looked at me with an empty gaze and kept repeating that I have to replace the two tensioners. Even after that the car was much louder then before and after a day of "testing on the special machine" at Purrfect Auto of Pasadena, they found nothing wrong. In cost me over $250 to find out that Purrfect has performed the installation incorrectly, hence the noise. But in addition, what really made me mad, I discovered that, again according to Honda mechanics, only ONE of the tensioners is ever replaced! Now I was finally convinced that they were ripping me off. I am taking actions but without the old parts it is very hard to prove anything. BAR investigator thinks I have a good chance in the small claims court, so I will try. These people should be stopped.
