Sony Play station/Return to BestBuy
BestBuy in Staten Island, NY 10314 Before the Sony Playstation incident I had made over $5,000 in purchases at BestBuy in the last 6 months. This is a story about a store that has absolutely NO loyalty. I purchased a Sony Playstation from BestBuy in December. I took it home and opened the box only to find that the unit was old and had clearly been used. It had caked dirt and dust in the fan on the back of the machine. I still tried to get it to work but was unsuccessful. This was only the beginning. I proceeded to go back to the store to return the unit with the receipt (SAME DAY OF PURCHASE)! Now with the holidays just around the corner, lines were crazy and I ended up waiting over 40 minutes. The sales person took the unit out of the box to inspect it and told me I can not return the unit to the store. They said the return policy states that I would have to go through SONY for a refund. Finally I was able to speak to a manager, Greg Salem, who then UNJUSTLY ACCUSED ME of peeling off the identification number and trying to pull a scam on the store! I begged and pleaded to no avail and still got nowhere. I made calls to two Bestbuys in New Jersey who did not have the same return policy. I was told that the manager in Staten Island could have accepted the return if he wanted to, but because he didn't want his store to eat the cost of the return, refused. Ultimately, I drove an hour out to another store in New Jersey and luckily was able to exchange the Playstation unit. Although it wasn't a total loss, I vowed never to step foot in that store in Staten Island again. After telling some friends and family members of my experience, I found out more information on what goes on in that store. For instance, a friend of mine purchased what they thought was a DVD player and found MAGAZINES in the box instead! It's my opinion that they have a scam of their own going on there. Someone must be taking the new products and selling them on the black market for extra pocket money. In another incident, a friend of mine purchased a digital camera on sale and found out three weeks later that the return policy was only 15 days! Buyer Beware! Matthew F. P, Denise
