Volvo Sells a Lemon and does not support it.

Hi, I have a Volvo Cross Country that I bought new in Nov 2001 and has been a problem Vehicle from the word go. Initially I had coolant level drop very quickly and was told that that was an airlock (this was at 5000km). Then I started having transmission problems – thumping during gear change as well as brake shudder at higher speeds ~>85kmph. This appeared around 31000km. I reported the issue to Volvo service centre and after a lot of phone calls they finally agreed to change the front discs and reset the engine management system and off I went. Within days I problems were apparent again. On calling the service centre I was informed that the transmission problem would go away after I had drive the car for at least 5000 kms and as for the continued brake problems that they would fix it up at the same time when the transmission issue was resolved if it continued after the 5000 km mark. When after driving for another 5000 km the transmission problem did not go and I took it back to them for fixing the issue they apparently have changed the transmission – the car dealer now has had the car with them for 2 weeks going to an fro with Volvo regarding the warranty repair issues etc. I still have not got my car back. Furthermore I talked to Volvo customer service that the brakes should be fixed under warranty; but they are not entertaining it. The repair centre has found that the rear discs also need to be replaced; the previous time it was the front discs that they replaced “not under warranty” but under “goodwill”. That a fat lot of goodwill when they calim to fix something and do only half a job of fixing it at one end and not the other end. When queried by the dealiership as to why they did not pick up the issue earlier; their claim was that they only road test the vehicle in the local are and do not drive at higher speeds; so could not pick up the issue earlier. Volvo is now stating that since the car is now at 47000 km they will not replace the discs as it is wear and tear item; and have made a statement that the disc wear can be an issue from 30000 km onwards. That fact is that it not wear; but the discs getting wobbly and believe it or not both the front and rear discs having the same issue – this has to be a manufacturing defect that Volvo need to address and support their product; but they simply do not stand by their product and are selling lemons to unsuspecting public and this should be dealt with properly. The Mercedes ML 320 is probably a much better option; at least the company stands by their product; unlike Volvo; selling $75,000 cars that are worse than the Daewoos and Hyundais. Rgds Atul
