I am an on-line banking customer with Southtrust Bank and closely monitor my account balances. On a number of occasions I have been assesed Insufficent Funds charges for no apparent reason. At no time did my account ledger balance or actual balance ever go negative. It seems that Southtrust, at the end of each day, deducts all debits to the account starting with the largest first.

Then credits are posted. Using this method of book keeping they will generate the maximum number of Insufficent Funds charges. They are not trying to protect their customers from charges they are looking for ways to collect more money from them through charges.

If they need to produce more revenue I would rather them raise the fees up front instead of using this underhanded, perhaps illegal, method of book keeping.

I will cancel my all 4 of my accounts with Southtrust tomorrow and move my money to a bank that really wants to take care of me.
