Ford India Ltd, Shakti Ford, Mumbai, Re: Manufacturing Defect in my Ford Ikon 1.6 I own a Ford Ikon 1.6 Model Year 2002, done 13000 Kms. The problem occurred like a dream, one fine day I started the car and it wouldn’t start, after lot of starts it finally started but my Ikon 1.6 petrol was felt like a old worn out diesel truck, it was vibrating from top to bottom, I immediately called my friend who is a mechanic with Maruti Authorised Service Centre ( I don’t wish to reveal his identity).

 

On his inspection I came to know that a spark plug wire was broken which I got it immediately replaced but the problem reappeared after replacement so he (friend) opened the engine head which revealed that the engine camshaft had a genuine manufacturing defect due to which the rocker arm which the camshaft pushes had come out of its position and was lodged in the middle of the camshaft which had caused the 2nd piston to stop working. The spark plug had oil on it and both the piston valves where not working, I immediately contacted Shakti Ford (Mumbai) from whom I had purchased the car and also they are the authorised service people for Ford Ikon.

 

The reply I got from them was since it was the 2nd year of my car the one year warranty had ended and they could not do it free of cost and all the heavy price would have to be borne by me. My complaint and question is whether warranty or no warranty isnt it that the company should instruct its dealers that a manufactuing defect is a defect which is something outside warranty and should be immediately handled free of cost as it hurts the reputation of the manufacturer. Kindly forward this complaint to india.ford.com. Further to my woes Ford India Ltd has no complaints department of its own and has a very poor website which is nothing but advertisement, atleast they should let the thousands of its customers know which company personnel to approach in case of a problem, when its dealers are of no use who are just money minded dealers, where are its offices located etc., but nothing and so I am totally frustrated as to where to approach ford india limited.
