Toshiba SD-1700 DVD Player Defect in Sound and display panel
The Toshiba SD-1700 DVD Player was purchased in 2001 and lightly used. 3 years later, while playing a movie the sound volume dropped, and the display panel on the front of the unit no longer works. I checked my audio connections, and unplugged the unit, but that didn't fix it.
After searching on the web for ' toshiba dvd "no sound" sd-1700 ', it became obvious that many Toshiba dvd players have a known problem with the sound circuitry and front display panel.
There is absolutely no volume now. I contacted toshiba customer service, and was disappointed that they refused to admit their design fault or replace the unit, and telling me I would have to pay for any repairs. That's not a solution because the repair costs will exceed the cost of purchasing a new DVD player.
Yes, you're supposed to get what you pay for, but when I pay $150 and use it properly, I expect it to last more than 3 years.
Toshiba has really disappointed me.
