Ponderosa Restaurant, Highway 30, Lancaster, PA - I kept repeating that all I wanted was some bread. In my opinion, no one should be treated in this manner

Ponderosa Restaurant

Highway 30, Lancaster. PA On Sunday, April 17, 2004, around 10:15 am, my family and I entered the above listed restaurant for their Sunday brunch buffet. I paid for my breakfast and was escorted to a table and was told to help myself. I got some bacon and eggs and looked around for some bread and did not see any so I asked the attendant where I would find some bread. He rudely replied. " We don't have none."

My response to him was that I needed some toast or perhaps a bagel to go with the eggs. He said I was stressing him and he did not want to be bothered. I got angry and asked him whether I could have my money back and I was verbally abused by this employee. I asked to see the manager who and was told he was unavailable. However, the waitress who served the coffee asked me to calm down and promised to find the manager and get me some bread. A few minutes later, the manager arrived and offered me a couple mini bagels.

I am still waiting for an apology from the manager or the employee who informed me among other things that he had another job and did not have to cater to me. While all this was going on there were two people who looked like law enforcement officers sitting there and did nothing.

Other patrons were shocked at the way I was treated. I was too embarrassed to do anything. I kept repeating that all I wanted was some bread. In my opinion, no one should be treated in this manner, I was not asking for a handout, I was a paying customer who deserved to be treated better. My family and I left the restaurant thing that had we not been people of color, we would not have been treated like that. Elneth C G
