GMC/GM OnStar In FL

Dear Sirs, My complaint had mutable folds, one is with the GMC dealer and the other is with GM itself. On 9 March 2004 I purchased a new GMC Envoy XUV with OnStar (an $800.00 equipment option). During the delivery of my new vehicle the salesman and his supervisor when over my new vehicles equipment. When they came to the OnStar option, they made contact with OnStar operations over the system installed in my new vehicle and activated the OnStar Safe & Sound Plan. At that time the operator asked if I would like to activate OnStar Personal Calling, immediately the sales supervisor stated that the personal calling service was not available in our area as of yet.

I asked him when would it be available and he stated within the next few months at most a year from now. That was in Orlando area now and should be in the Melbourne / Cocoa area soon. I continued questioning him on the OnStar Personal Calling (This was the main option I liked in the truck) and he showed me the OnStar window sticker it stated that this vehicle has the personal calling radio and pointed out the fine print (Item #2): OnStar Personal Calling Enabled Vehicle, existing OnStae service contract and prepaid calling minutes required. Ensuring me that my new GMC Envoy XUV was fully OnStar ready. Now this brings me to my first complaint: The 2004 GMC Envoy XUV has an outdated OnStar radio. The radio that is installed in the vehicles is the old analog type of radio which is no longer supported or available for service in the States of Florida (and Texas) from OnStar because Florida & Texas were upgraded last year to digital service. I was also informed by the OnStar helpdesk that the radio I have installed now will no longer be serviceable within the next few years (all analog systems will no longer be supported by OnStar after 2007 “per OnStar web page 2008”). The hardware installed was Generation 5 Hardware and that for me to have personal calling in the state of Florida I would needed Generation 6 Hardware installed. I tried to work this out with GMC dealer in Cocoa were I purchase, with no luck. They directed me to GM, stating that it was a GM issues not theirs. This brings me to my second complaint: I tried working with GM customer service, at first Mr. Marion Monke (@866-932-4368 ext: 35188) looked like he was going to help me solve this issue about my OnStar system I purchased from GM. He even made the comment that he was unaware of any service interruptions with OnStar personal calling.

He requested a week to work out a answer and reach a compromise arrangement on a fix to this problem. Well a week passed, and he did not contact me as agreed. When I called him his response was that in the 2004 Light Duty Truck Warranty and Owner Assistance Information book on page 13 GM makes the following statement . Production Changes GM and GM dealers reserve the right to make changes in vehicles built and/or sold by them at any time with incurring any obligation to make the same or similar changes on vehicles previously built and /or sold by them. He then to me he was closing out my complaint / inquiry and informed me that GMC and GM see this issue as closed. The file number with GM was/is 1-207981276. In closing: Why would I buy a vehicle for $37,180.00 “sticker price” if I was knowledgeable of the outdated radio that was installed in this vehicle when there were vehicles of the same modem available (on the lot) for hundreds / thousands of dollars less. The two issues above and the way GM and GMC has handed it just lights the fire under me to do something about it and to warn other consumer of how GM treats their sold customers and to watch out for the OnStar option if you live in Florida or Texas.
