MANUFACTURERS BEWARE!!!! Best Buy is selling 2 year warranties to its customers and reverted them to you for repair. Situation: On 1/27/2004 I purchased a CD Player at Best Buy, #288, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 for $29.99. I also purchased a repair, replacement plan. On 4/2/2004 I replaced the CD Player with an upgraded version for $49.99. Brand new CD player. I asked the sales person specifically, (Val#: 0535-2872-4371-7204 ) if the replacement plan was still in effect. He assured me that it was, and the manager of the store signed the receipt. The second CD player was defective. I took it back to Best Buy 4/3/2004. They took it to the back to the technician, stayed away for 20 minutes or more and said it was the battery. I took their word and kept the CD player. On 4/16/2004 tried to use the CD player again, and it would not come on. I changed the batteries and it did start, but the other batteries were brand new . I tried to turn it on an hour later it would not come on. I took the CD player to Best Buy once more, they did the same thing again. Took it to the back and changed the batteries, it worked. A brand new CD player should not require batteries to be changed that often. That is a plan English definition of defect. I brought it to their attention that this was done before, and they said it could not be exchanged because my 2-year warranty was not in effect even though I was advised previously it was, and the manager signed. I was also advised that even though I purchased a brand new CD player on 4/2/2004 an upgraded version for more money that the effective date of purchase was 1/27/2004 because of the warranty. The same warranty that they just said was voided. The manager Stan stated, "that I should have gotten the same CD player then the warranty would still be in effect". I reiterated that the sales person told me that the warranty was still in effect. Otherwise I would have purchased another warranty. Obviously to my concern the manager Stan reverted back to the warranty that was not in effect, and had no concern for the 30-day store policy. He said, it was still under manufacturer's warranty so call them. "Best Buy return policy is 30 days from purchase. I purchased this brand new CD player on 4/2/2004, and returned it on 4/16/2004. Do the math. If they were not going to honor the warranty, they should at least honor their store policy. This was a brand new CD player that was less than 30 days, that was reverted to the manufacturer for repair. Best Buy should have exchanged or given me my money back based on no warranty and store policy for new items. In other words they were telling me that I have a new CD player, and the only way to have it repaired is to contact the manufacturer. This gets them off the hook. I don't know how manufacturer's feel, but someone is being cheated by Best Buy. The customer, as well as, the manufacturer.
