Cingular Wireless / Charged roaming fees unfairly

Dear Complaints Dept., My complaint is about Cingular Wireless, P.O. Box 60017, Los Angeles, CA 90060-0017, phone number: 1-800-331-0500. I live in California. I was going to go on a trip to Norfolk, Virginia on 2/29/04, returning on 3/06/04. So I called some time either during the week of 2/15/04 or 2/22/04 to change my wireless plan to a nationwide one so I would be able to make calls from Virginia without incurring any roaming charges. Unfortunately, I don\'t remember the exact date I called, nor the name of the person I spoke to. It doesn\'t matter anyway, because they now have no record of my call.

I remember talking to a woman for about 20 minutes, she explaining to me how they would have to pro-rate my bill because I needed the new plan to start before the next billing cycle, etc. In the end, I changed my plan to the nationwide one -- or so I thought! I just received the bill for the time period that I was in Virginia and it is $300. I was charged roaming for every single call I made from Virginia! I called Cingular and they say they have no record of any call from me since December 2003.

I spoke to a manager named \"Andrea\" and she said since there was no record of my call she couldn\'t do anything. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she said she was the only one there and took my name and number and would have a supervisor call me back within 24-48 hours. We\'ll see. I would love to be able to completely cancel my account but, of course, I will get charged a $150 early termination fee. I am a full-time student so I don\'t have a lot of money.

I would never have made all of these calls from across the country if I had any idea that I was going to get charged so much money for them! This $300 bill is going to be a huge setback to me if I have to pay it. If I can produce the phone bill that shows that I made the call, will that make any difference? Is there any recourse for me? Thanks, Emily N
