Apple Vacations / Trip to Bahamas
BEWARE - If you get a confirmation and pay in full Apple Vacations will still want more $$!! A travel agent booked a vacation through Apple Vacations online for a trip to Nassau. The trip was advertised as $719.99 per person for a total of $860 per person including the applicable taxes and travel insurance. A confirmation was received the next day, and the credit card used to pay for the trip was billed for the entire amount of $1,720.96 on the same day. Approximately 6 days later, in the evening, the travel agent contacted us with a message from Apple stating the price of the trip was incorrect. They gave us the following options to resolve the advertising error they made: 1) Pay an extra $280 per person (which included $100 off per person as compensation for their error) 2)Cancel the trip for a full refund if notice was received within 2 days 3)Cancel the trip and receive our refund in Apple vouchers if we did not notify them within 2 days. I was shocked at the lack of options, not to mention the fact the trip was paid in full, with a confirmation number, 6 days prior to their call. I contacted Carol Van Bogaert at Apple to get an explanation as well as to express my displeasure. She made it quite clear that they don't normally talk to the customers, and that I was wasting her time because she only dealt with complaints post booking.
She explained they made an error and that according to the Fair Trade Contract they were allowed to adjust the price. Neither I, nor my traveling companion, received a copy of the Fair Trade Act so we were unaware of their ability to change the price at their discretion, which is unconscionable in my opinion. I also talked to a Karen U. who refused to give me any other options or attempt to make reparations in any other way. Apple refused to be flexible and provide us with a comparable trip, or own up to their mistake and give us the price we had already paid for. The fact they took our money and almost a week later demanded more, outraged me. In my opinion, this is a classic case of bait and switch. Apple Vacations had their chance to make reparations at the time of the complaint, but they refused. $560 for goodwill towards the customer was apparently to expensive. I will NEVER do business with Apple Vacations again.
