December 2000 I purchased a GE Spacemaker Radio / CD Player. Within a matter of weeks the CD player malfunctioned. I was instructed to ship the unit to Thomson Electronics the contract repair service center for GE Electronics.

After I received the unit back it the CD player worked fine but the unit picked up signals from incoming calls on my cell phone when the phone was near the Spacemaker. I determined I could live with this since it was a minor issue.

Now the unit emits a loud high pitched squelch regardless if the unit is turn off or not. You plug the system back in and in a matter of hours the noise reoccurs. Not a pleasant sound to wake up to at 3 am! I thought I was purchasing a piece of equipment that would provide several years of service and enjoyment. Little did I realize that this is a disposal piece of crap after three years.

GE has done an excellent job of shielding themselves from the frustration of consumers such as myself. They stand behind companies like Thomson. In my issue I was told by a Thomson service representative that since my one year warranty is up "....there is nothing they can do".

I guess every product has "an end" to their warranty, but I'm pissed. I don't consider an 80 dollar radio/CD player to be cheap, and certainly expect it to last longer than three years!

I would like an address that I could return this P.O.S to Jeffrey Immelt. Maybe I should consider myself lucky because I realize many people get "burned' for much larger purchases than this. But its the principle, damit! Besides, I'm still out 80 dollars.

Hey, June 2009....I used this same unit maybe 20 times....now it only goes on when it wants to and I have holes in my expensive new kitchen cabinet...mine is model 7540 with the MP3 outlet, weather radio, cd player, radio , kitchen timer etc.

Piece of crap! I lost the paperwork and the damn thing is only 3 mos old.
