Lamps Plus, CA - problems with two of their "made in China" house brand chandeliers Lamps Plus, CA - problems with two of their "made in China" house brand chandeliers
From:
I have encountered questionable quality in two separate models of Lamps Plus's house brand higher end chandeliers. Price was NOT a strong consideration. 3 were around $575, 4 were around $175. I purchased 3 $600 chandeliers from Lamps Plus Model 00091 (turns out they were the house brand). When the lamps were removed for electrical work in December 2003, I found that there was a cold solder joint that had cracked (this was done several months after the second incident with different chandeliers below).
When I went to Lamps Plus (Marin) I discovered that the model had been discontinued. After checking the other two chandeliers, I found that the ceiling fixture had warped due to its poor design (unable to handle the weight of these chandeliers). Do NOT BUY Lamps PLUS House Brand lights ... they are junk. I purchased 3 $200 chandeliers from Lamps Plus - mini-chandelier sockets failed when using the 60w rated mini-chandelier lights. I specifically purchased these because they could handle 180w per light. Sockets failed within 18 months. Lamps Plus store (Marin) denied they had had any similar problems with the lamps. Lamps Plus offerred to exchange the lamps WITH A $50/lamp SERVICE CHARGE!!! The chandelier model has been discontinued so I do not have the product code. Lamps Plus (Marin) eventually replaced the sockets with new/identical sockets. I replaced the lights with 40w bulbs (too little light for the application). D. C. M.
