MSN Internet - unauthorized account charges MSN Internet - unauthorized account charges
From:
I entered a search for the type of scam I'm experiencing and found this write up from you. I've also been scammed by MSN for bogus internet charges. Dialup - which I have no capability of using, and I'm also a DSL subscriber and have been for over two years. Very stupidly, I found the MSN charges on my cc card bank bill -- just now. I called and found out I've been paying for dial-up (which I have no capability of) for a year and a half - all because of the rebate scam that Best Buy conned me into after a computer purchase. I was told that I had the year to cancel and would not be charged anything. I never subscribed or took advantage of the offer or logged in to use the service - cause I can't and don't want to either. I called the 800 number provided to me and cancelled in May of 2002 and was given a Confirmation number. End of Story.... No way ! Today I learned I have been paying 21.95 / month for a year and half -- since Oct. of 2002 - how stupid is that ? I've had my head in the sand to not have seen this before on my bank statement. When I called MSN today and hysterically demanded my money refunded and gave them my cancellation confirmation number - they accused me of lying and said they never issued that cancellation number to me. They said they never heard of that number before. I couldn't believe what I was hearing from a reputable company? When I demanded to speak to the manager, he accused me of using a fraudulent credit card to explain my not knowing the charges were being billed to my account all this time. ???? I'm in shock by now. I said why would I subscribe to your dialup service when I don't have a modem to do so and I pay $50/month for DSL service for the last two years. The MicroSoft Network Manager (MSN) hung up on me. My bank has filed a claim ticket on my behalf and refunded only the doubled payments MSN stole from me in December of this month. The past charges, they cannot credit me with. I put a stop payment on MSN of course, but this doesn't compensate for the past year and a half of charges. They owe me over $500.00 dollars on my account. For something I never used.
Billing at MSN said they could see that I never ever used it. Last Year and this year in December they jerked over $75 from my bank account ! When there wasnt enough funds in the bank account to collect (Ive been unemployed for the past year and a half), they waited until I put money into the account and triple collected the service fees. I thought I had mistakenly overdrawn my account and dismissed the overdraft charges sent to me. Now I know I was being robbed by MSN. I was never sent a notice by mail that this was happening. I want justice. What else have you learned that might provide me with some knowledge to fight MSN with? I'm writing to the attorney general of CA and I'm going to sue them. I'm just hoping there are other like you and me out there and that a law suit can be filed for this. Email User (my email address since 2001)
