Jefferson Pilot Financial Disability Insurance - poor participation experience Jefferson Pilot Financial Disability Insurance - poor participation experience
From:
I participated in a group disability insurance policy through my employer. When I unexpectedly had to use it I was given the run around by Jefferson Pilot. The person I dealt with on the phone was rude and somewhat arrogant. They claimed that my 3 doctors were not sending the information in as required. One doctor even used a private company and had the documentation of the time and date the info was received by Jefferson Pilot. Jefferson Pilot still claimed they had not received it.
Anyway the doctors ended up sending the same information via fax and mail several times. I finally got aggravated and frustrated with JP and never did get all the money that I was due. The fact that I was under the care of 3 separate doctors who all agreed I could not return to work did not matter to Jefferson Pilot. Their argument was that several weeks prior to my returning to work the doctors had put in their notes that my condition was improving...IMPROVING people...not CURED.
I have since dropped my policy with Jefferson Pilot and signed up with AFLAC. AFLAC is much easier to deal with and their policy is cut and dry. I didn't do my homework on this company so I'm advising anyone thinking of signing on with them to think again. They're trouble. Oh by the way, here in North Carolina, Jefferson Pilot has reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit against them involving 165,000 policyholders and beneficiaries in regards to their term life insurance policies. I think their track record speaks for itself.
