Sears Kenmore Elite washer and dryer - purchased May, 2001 - not worth the price paid

From:

I am writing to notify as many consumers as possible that the kenmore "elite" washer and dryer is a consumer rip off! We purchased our set 05/01 and as soon as the one year warrantee expired, the heating element in the dryer died.

As the warranty had just expired, Sears was more than happy to come fix our "top of the line" dryer for a mere $250.00. Then about a week later, adding insult to injury, we received a phone solicitation from Sears Central offering to extend the warranty on the dryer for a "nominal' fee.

As we had purchased this expensive "top of the line" set and the salesman at the time of purchase had indicated we would not have any problems with it, we decided to pass on the additional offer to purchase a warranty. We figured that the situation was a fluke. Four months after their technician had "fixed" our dryer, the dryer again died.

When calling Sears Central, they advised me that a technician would be happy to come out sometime the

following week but there would be a labor charge as well as whatever parts needed replaced. We instead went with a local repair shop as Sears had taken advantage of us for the last time. About one week later, our washer began leaking from the liquid chlorine bleach dispenser on to our new carpet.

The representative at Sears gleefully informed us that there would be a labor charge for this as well. My husband and I lifted the bleach dispenser out and found that it has a designing flaw allowing lint to build up in the feed line which causes the bleach to leak over the tubing.

This happened last with the washer and dryer 2/03. After paying to fix the dryer again and fixing the washer ourselves, our dryer is again not working (12/03) and this time we don't know what the problem is.

I STRONGLY urge potential consumers of Sears Elite products to keep on looking and not pay the

exorberant prices that Sears likes to charge for these pieces of junk.

Prior to purchasing this set, we had owned a Roper washer and dryer and only paid 350.00 for

the pair. It never required repairs and the only reason we got the "elites" were because the Roper set was over 15 years old. We had a new baby on the way and wanted a new "premiere" set that would guarantee the ability to wash baby clotes without problems. If only we had known then what we know now about Sears kenmore Elite!!!!

We also have a family friend who purchased a Kenmore Elite dishwasher and has nothing but problems.
