To Whom it May Concern:

I received a postcard in the mail asking if I would like to receive a free sample of Silkies pantyhose. Nowhere on the postcard did it say that I would receive additional pantyhose and have to pay for them. After a few weeks, I received a "free" pair of trouser socks, 3 pairs of pantyhose, and a bill. Again, I never ordered this merchandise. I was never given the option to cancel these additional pairs because they came in the same package as my "free" pair. The account number that has been assigned to me is 103982379-3.

After doing some research, I realize that Silkies is running a large scam. I was searching the Internet for contact information for the company when I found complaints.com. Since I was unable to find a phone number for Silkies, I am filing my complain in this way. As part of my research I came across this statement:

Government Action Information

On March 31,2001, the Arizona Attorney General's Office has announced an assurance of discontinuance with HCI Direct to settle allegations that the company violated the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act. The action alleges that HCI failed to adequately disclose to consumers who agreed to accept the company's initial offer that they would continue to receive future shipments of pantyhose, as each purchase automatically triggered another shipment. A consumer's failure to pay for the pantyhose resulted in vigorous collection activity by both HCI Direct and its collection agencies. HCI did not admit any violations, but agreed to change its practices by: including a clear and conspicuous disclosure on all invoices detailing the procedures a consumer must follow to return the goods without incurring charges, as well as the terms of any continuous sales plan and not claiming in its solicitations that consumers have no obligation to pay to return hose unless all such representations are true. The company further agrees to permanently refrain from collecting payment from Arizona consumers who were billed for an initial hosiery order they did not make or who responded to such an offer promising free postage. Additionally, the agreement requires the company to contribute $15,000 to Arizona charities benefitting women and girls. “

I am angered that this company would take advantage of consumers and demand the following:

1) Close my account immediatly. I am willing to return the unused pantyhose if you will pay the postage in advance.

2) Stop sending me mail of any kind, and take me off of all mailing lists.
