Sprint PCS - added second phone to account - billed for unexpected charges

From:

I have been a customer for 2+ years using one phone. I heard via acquaintences that I could add a phone to my account for $20 extra a month. I tried previously calling and enquirying to a representative about 2 phones on one account and was told that this service was not provided and 2 separate accounts would be billed at full price. I was therefore amazed to hear this from a user having several teenagers who had their own phones.

I called Sprint again and this time was told the information was correct and that for only $20 more I could add a free phone though I elected to purchase an upgrade for an extra $30.00 and upgraded my user minutes to 650 from 300 thus costing an additional $10 extra a month.

You can imagine my surprise in early December of 2003 to receive a statement of $192.00. I did not budget for this and my last bill was also rather high so that I looked into why I was charged so much. Apparently, they billed me for two months of services charges broken down as follows x2 and I received some credits for $36.00 activation fee and $100 free phone charge with discounts of $10 for my wireless web:

$50 new service

$20 add a phone

plus the difference of the phone $30.00

and surcharges and taxes came to $22.98 because I live in the one of the cheapest states having a sales tax of 4.5 but not including the city and county taxes too though the city is not really a city but a part of the county because only St. Louis is the city with the rest counties though this distinction is never made so that one pays three sets of taxes here bringing tax rates up to as high as 14% in some areas. Besides, when did it become legal to tax a service which is not a tangible object to be owned unless you have shares in the company. Don't move here is my point. We are just the midwest afterall.

So yes, I also agree that Sprint has a lot of hidden charges not advertised in any way or form at any point in the conversation though I asked repeatedly to ensure that I did not receive any unpleasant surprises especially during the holiday but that was not my experience nor do I now believe that such business is possible with Sprint. I did not opt for the long distance for some unkown reason and after reading the horror stories am glad and feel that my story is not as severe.

After my contract expires with Sprint, I too will search for a new wireless service for the free market system seems to be the consumers only form of real power with big conglomerates embracing bad business practices that are otherwise untouchable along with their projected accounting principles and writeoffs unlike the nameless and ordinary consumers or lambs as they see us.

Law is being applied selectively in this country. I don't believe in the regulation of private businesses either but it seems as though the laws have been amended such that the practice of the fair market system is disappearing at an ever esculating rate that will ensure the fall of the our economy and minimum wage was never intended to support whole families regardless of how many claps on the back our policitians like to obtain for lower unemployment rates.

People had better start fighting for their lost rights or the children of the future will be little better than starving slaves. Afterall, the depression of the 30's historically notes that most of the American populace had the knowledge and land to feed itself unlike today. This type of greed only heightens without opposition. Good luck people.
