RE: RCA 60" Proscan TV and VCR - 7 years old and told that Proscan no longer makes parts for this TV - so can't repair the TV

We purchased a 60" Proscan TV and VCR and the warranty has run out, but we called a repairman to come out to service it. He took one look and said because it was 7 yrs. old that Proscan no longer had parts for it. Is this true? Why weren't we told when we purchased such an investment (4,000.00) that after 7 yrs., we would no longer be able to enjoy the TV.

Now we're stuck with a beautiful piece of furniture and we were told that we would have to have someone (professionally) to drain the cams before we could dispose of it, is this also true?

Who can you trust anymore? A salesman on a commission will do anything to make a sale, especially when its that large. He would definitely not make it known to the consumer that after 7 yrs., you will no longer be able to get parts if your TV fails you. What options do we have other than to trash the TV?

By the way, we did call in a repairman. He ordered 2 parts that he thought might solve the problem and neither of them worked. He wouldn't even charge us for the 2 trips he made to our home. He also said that they didn't make parts for the proscan any longer. So what are we to do? We want to purchase another TV, but afraid to go the 60" route again.......HELP....
