RE: Garcia Subaru Motors, Albuquerque, NM - unexpectedly purchased car, when only intended to co-sign for loan
My grandson wished to purchase a Subaru and asked if I would co-sign for him. He and his mother went to Garcia Subaru Motors in Albuquerque, picked out the car and explained how they wanted to finance it and that I would co-sign for him. I asked them if I was supposed to go down to the dealership and discuss the transaction, etc.
They said no, the salesman gave them the papers for me to sign (where the "X's" were!) and to bring it back, together with my driver's license so he could copy it. I never once talked to anyone at the dealership, saw the car, or set foot on the premises My grandson took posession of the car with no further discussion.
About a week later, I found that everything was in MY name, including a $24,000+ loan that I didn't even know anything about (apparently the papers I signed were an application for the loan, but I wasn't told anything about it. I"m 78 years old, retired, and I don't like being played for a sucker by Subaru!.My daughter-in-law and grandson said they were not properly informed as to what was going on, either.
I think the whole thing was very shady, and bad business policy. I want my grandson to have the car, am willing to stand behind him in he financing, but everything shold be in his name, ncluding the car loan. I would appreciate some kind of an explanation from SOMEBODY in your company--as yet I've heard nothing!! Marilouse D. Feusi
