RE: The American Historic Society - Poor Customer Service for coin set purchases I ordered several coin sets from the American Historic Society back in November. I paid an extra fee to guarantee delivery in 5 days. When five days passed, I called for the status of my order. I was told the order was delayed, but delivery was guaranteed by Christmas.
I got the same story each time I called to check on the status--until yesterday. On December 18 they told me that my account was just charged and the coins just mailed (regular mail, not even UPS) and I would NOT get delivery by Christmas.
Customer service had no clue why this upset me and no apology was offered. Clearly, they knew that they could not deliver on time, yet kept up the scam to get me to keep my order. This ran for 10 years from 1999-2008. I have had to constantly contact them to ask when I was getting my shipment of quarters for the year. Now I called to see when I would be receiving my last two years (2007 & 2008) and all the numbers are out of service and I searched for the addresses and nothing comes up. I am glad to have found this site as I will continue to make sure I get my quarters to complete this set. If anyone knows who I can call, please feel free to e-mail me. Thank you. And, I recomend to buy your coins from the goverment direct their website is http://www.usmint.gov. Also, be aware that a website with a .com prefix is consider a commercial company and a .gov ia a USA govermentwebsite. Finaly, do a search of the company and/or item when buying a collective item. To be sure you are getting a reasonable deal. Also, keep in mind that collectible items have different prices in different part of the country ( after USA mint stop producing it ). I hpe this information will help future collectors. I purchased the entire collection back in 2002, when it was brand new,as a gift for my dad, and STILL he hasn't recieved all the proper coins for each respective year. Every couple of years i end up calling them, having to research the # because it always changes, and re-explaining my story. It's taking so long, i don't even have the original purchasing info because my credit cards and state of residence are different now! Dad's also recieved duplicates of everything he already has instead of getting the coins he needs. I would not recommend this collection to anyone. Don't waste your money! Their plate is seriously flawed. They show Barack's mole on the right side of his nose when, in fact, it exists on the left side. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS INACCURATE PIECE OF JUNK. They said they are not affiliated with the American Historic Society. They do sell the Colorized State Quarters wholesale however. They have no history of the order placed with the American Historic Society and cannot help me. Has anybody had any resolution to their order placed with the American Historic Society? The complete set was almost $300.00 From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Tuesday, 01-Apr-08 14:56:12 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisHere's my two cents - I received a letter last week from "The American Historic Society" that more or less apologized for not yet charging me for a set of coins I had supposedly ordered 08/06/07; I've checked all my receipts, and wish lists, and cannot find any such order, or receipt. In their letter, they state that the Order Number was EAA0 (Edward Alpha Alpha Zero), and the Product Description was "Eagle 4 Coin Collection", for a total of $99.00. I can't see ordering 4 2007 American Silver Eagles that late in the year, and it was certainly too early to pre-order the 2008 coins (which I did later order five of, from a Littleton Coin Co.). So - what the frick?? I've read through a few of these comments, and it appears that AHS is a fly-by-night outfit...here's the latest info they provided when they wrote me - oh, letter is dated March 6, 2008: The American Historical Society Providing Exceptional Values in Fine Silver and Collectible Coins for Over 35 Years (for whom - themselves??) 889 Waverly Avenue Holtsville, NY 11742 Customer Service Questions? Call 1-800-815-0268 M-F 8am to 6pm Central Time (in New York??) Good luck, folks, and pass this on to others you're aware of being in the same situation(s). Also, please let me know what your experience was - I'm going to call them now to find out what kind of yarn they're going to give me...imagine - forgetting to charge $100 for over five months?? From: Message Author (click here to email author) Date: Tuesday, 18-Sep-07 19:32:47 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisOkay lets get the correct information out there so people don't get scammed by any of these companies including the shopping networks. Any time a coin has been altered from the condition the the Federal Government has issued it is actually a crime. Once the coin has been colorized, clad in another metal, or had another image placed over it it is considered worthless. It has NO value as a collectable coin. The Federal Government considers this to be a form of counterfeiting. This also applies to paper currency being changed such as holograms being applied to a bill. The only places that a person should purchase coins or paper currency is either from a licensed coin shop, at a coin show or directly from the US mint. To purchase them anywhere else is to just be throwing money away in the street. I will however say that if you do come across someone selling there collection a flea market or garage sale go for it, you will probably get a good deal. Lastly I will say that sometimes in your change you might find a surprise. So always look closely when you buy something, people sometimes send coins and bills that have some collectability.
